I own the mini MK2 and this is definitely quite the upgrade with tons of new features that make it great for producing, such as arpegio and the ability to change beat, rhythm, and pattern.

They also have added pitch and modulation wheels and dedicated buttons for playing and recording. They also improved the sensitivity of the keys and the drum pads, so you no longer have to slam on it as hard as on the MK2. However, I use my Launchkeys for live looping and the way they changed some features makes it less than ideal for commonly used features while live looping.

There are no longer dedicated buttons for features that the MK2 has. For example, in order to switch to «In Control» mode, you have to hold down the new «Shift» button while simultaneously pressing another button. Another example is the track buttons for switching through tracks left and right. In order to do this, you have to hold down the «Shift» button as well, but what makes matters worse is that the track buttons are on the other side of the keyboard from the «Shift» button.

I like to do live loops during my performances, so I switch tracks quite often, but this is no longer feasible with the MK3 since I have to use both hands to switch tracks, which leaves me with no free hands to continue playing on the keys.

I can see this becoming a common complaint for the MK3, so hopefully they release a firmware update that enables some sort of «Caps Lock» mode that keeps the «Shift» button enabled without having to hold it down.

I’m not classically trained in music, I can however produce, mix and even master my own music. The one thing I can’t do though is play the piano. However this the LaunchKey 37 MK3 is a bit of a game changer. The chord mode letting me trigger multiple notes from a various selection of scales at once from a super soft gel pad makes writing my own music a breeze.

Than I can enable the scale mode to write a melody after programming my chords. Than even take it a step further to add my own arpeggio.

So if you’re like me, this keyboard may be perfect for you. However if you do know how to play the piano, there are better options, as the keybed on the mk3 is super light and shallow when a key is triggered. In the end though I give this board 5 out of 5. This midi keyboard rules! It synced up with logic pro x super easily allowing me to control most functions thru the keyboard.

I bought this product in September last year, life happened. I didn’t get to this device until April this year. I am brand new to the music making world. With all that said, My main issue with this device, was weird sound levels.

When I played a midi instrument with launchkey in Ableton, it was light and couldn’t hear it, but on play back it was loud and the same when I tested a sounds from the library. I tired for weeks to figure it out while I was studying Ableton, cause I couldn’t return it..

Then I stumbled across a form talking about velocity curve on midi controllers and once I turned it off in settings on the launchkey mk3 See attached.

It was a blessing and solve my issue. I will be leaving it off. Last bit of advice. The manual is a little out of date on the midi map. So attached is the new Ableton 11 midi map for this device, my setup does not have midi monitor and everything works see attached.

Also there’s a new driver and firmware coming out all the time for this device, stay current on that. I had small issues with Abelton lite and once I upgraded Ableton that solve issues as well. Its the same in a sense with a midi controller, its like a keyboard that transmits data and controls stuff in DAWS.

This is a cheap MIDI controller to throw in your backpack, or keep in the corner of your sofa. So yeah. Within that paradigm, it’s fantastic. So yeah, I have a nicer, key Native Instruments keyboard: but this little dude still gets used for convenience’s sake. I think that’s pretty high praise, tbh. I own the mini MK2 and this is definitely quite the upgrade with tons of new features that make it great for producing, such as arpegio and the ability to change beat, rhythm, and pattern.

They also have added pitch and modulation wheels and dedicated buttons for playing and recording. They also improved the sensitivity of the keys and the drum pads, so you no longer have to slam on it as hard as on the MK2. However, I use my Launchkeys for live looping and the way they changed some features makes it less than ideal for commonly used features while live looping.

There are no longer dedicated buttons for features that the MK2 has. For example, in order to switch to «In Control» mode, you have to hold down the new «Shift» button while simultaneously pressing another button. Another example is the track buttons for switching through tracks left and right.

In order to do this, you have to hold down the «Shift» button as well, but what makes matters worse is that the track buttons are on the other side of the keyboard from the «Shift» button. I like to do live loops during my performances, so I switch tracks quite often, but this is no longer feasible with the MK3 since I have to use both hands to switch tracks, which leaves me with no free hands to continue playing on the keys. I can see this becoming a common complaint for the MK3, so hopefully they release a firmware update that enables some sort of «Caps Lock» mode that keeps the «Shift» button enabled without having to hold it down.

I’m not classically trained in music, I can however produce, mix and even master my own music. The one thing I can’t do though is play the piano.

However this the LaunchKey 37 MK3 is a bit of a game changer. The chord mode letting me trigger multiple notes from a various selection of scales at once from a super soft gel pad makes writing my own music a breeze. Than I can enable the scale mode to write a melody after programming my chords. Than even take it a step further to add my own arpeggio. So if you’re like me, this keyboard may be perfect for you. However if you do know how to play the piano, there are better options, as the keybed on the mk3 is super light and shallow when a key is triggered.

In the end though I give this board 5 out of 5. This midi keyboard rules!
